I Have A Hard Painful Red Lump In My Cleavage.

I have a hard painful red lump in my cleavage. It isn't more on one breast or the other it is directly in the middle. It doesn't move under the skin and feels almost rock hard. What is it and should I get it checked out? If so how soon should I get it checked?
