I Have A Loved One In The Hospital Being Treated

I have a loved one in the hospital being treated for a bacterial post op infection she has a altered mental status and is being treated with Ertapenem ( note, she already had an altered mental status when we rushed her to the hospital. there actually has been some improvement since being given ertapenem what else can/should her doctors be doing ?
