I Have A Pain Pump Which Is Pumping But Yesterday

I have a pain pump which is pumping but yesterday it stopped controlling my pain well. Today the doctor found that there is a problem with the catheter; not enough morphine is entering my spinal canal. There is a terrible taste in my mouth. Any food or strong smell increases the taste. Is the taste a result of morphine from the pump going where it shouldn't be going? Is this dangerous? The doctor won't do surgery to replace the catheter until that is approved by my insurance.
