I Have A Question About Mental Health Treatment And Finding

I have a question about mental health treatment and finding the right practitioner. I life in Nebraska, which has a shortage of all mental health practitioners. I'm not satisfied with the care I've been receiving from a psychiatric nurse practitioner. (She prescribes meds, but spends no real time talking to me.) For therapy, she referred me to a psychologist. Isn't this backwards? A psychologist has more formal education and training, yet it's only the less-experienced and less-well-trained NP who can prescribe drugs. Any suggestions? (I was very happy with my psychiatrist, but she was one of 13 who left the city a few years ago for practices in other states. Where do I start?
