I Have A Spot/lump On My Scalp That When I

I have a spot/lump on my scalp that when I Squeeze is smelly. I have had it for over a year! Mentioned it to doctor some time ago who suggested seeing a different doctor who would shave my hair around it spot and remove!!!! Surely there is a treatment less drastic than having a bald patch even if temporary? I am finding that if I don't pop spot it builds up and gets sore and I feel the pressure on my head. It's not huge, more annoying and unpleasant. What do you recommend? I am a 54 yr old female. Many thanks.
