I have a stoma. I emptied my bag and it instead of having the normal fluids I dump from it, the fluid was bright red as if it were full of blood. So I checked my stoma, and it has red liquid, thick like blood coming from it. When I emptied my bag for a second time to check it again, it wasn't as full, but again had the red substance in it as if it were blood. This time it was thick like blood also, and again my stoma still looks as if its bleeding. I have been in and out of the hospital with several Crohns flare ups and other problems since I had my ileostomy surgery in November 2014. This however is the first time I have had this problem. I have always had some symptoms of being sick as well each time I had a flare or obstruction. This time however, if this is in fact blood, I don't feel sick. I feel tired, but other than that have no other symptoms at the moment of not feeling well. Would that be normal if I was bleeding from my stoma. I have not eaten anything that was red in color, had red dyes, or red sauce. I did eat a little bit of licorice about an hour ago, but this is not colored from that. I know this only because when I had my J pouch, my stool would get colored from eating licorice and I can tell the difference. Should I be going to the emergency room to have this checked out? I should mention, one of the things I have been hospitalized for since my surgery is blood clots. But as I mentioned, I don't feel sick, although right now, I am very nervous and scared of what this might be, but I live 45 minutes from the nearest ER and that is why I'm wondering if I don't feel sick, is this something to be concerned about. Could I have bleeding like this without any symptoms of being sick? Please help!
