I Have A Sudden Onset Sharp Pain That Radiates Down

I have a sudden onset sharp pain that radiates down the front of my right leg. It is very painful, sometimes makes it difficult to walk for a few seconds then slowly resolves. It seems to occur most often when I first get up from a chair or get up in the morning, but sometimes occurs randomly. I am just curious what it is and how can I get it to stop?
