I Have A Tear In The Skin On My Tailbone

I have a tear in the skin on my tailbone area it has hurt for almost four months very bad but in the last couple of weeks I have noticed I have developed a tear down there. My doctor wants to do steroid injections for tailbone pain but I think it may be something else since the skin is tearing. It feels like it may be a hernia or something... any suggestions??
