I Have Always Had A Lump On My Thumb Nail

I have always had a lump on my thumb nail except while taking prenatal vitamins, then they would smooth out. I am now 62 yrs old and my nails all have a slight lump but my thumb nails are rough at the base wear nail grows and is now showing several deep lumps and moon area looks lije it needs to be filed to smooth the roughness. What will cause this issue?
