I Have An Intensely Itchy Mons Pubis. There Are No

I have an intensely itchy mons pubis. There are no spots or lumps. It is worse at night and feels hot inside. Sometimes it feels as though my pubic hair is prickly and stabbing me from the root. I have had this for a few months and it does sometimes settle down although it always seems to return. What could it be?
