I Have An Upper Respiratory Infection. Get Them A Couple

I have an upper respiratory infection. Get them a couple times a year. mostly after bad bought with severe allergies. I have an inhaler but still feel like my lungs get that "full" feeling then I cough. People keep recommending suppressants to me. Should I really take a suppressant if I have a productive cough?
