I Have Been Dealing With An Infection Around My Fingernail.

I have been dealing with an infection around my fingernail. I am finishing up a cycle of SMZ-TMP DS 800-160, and the pus is all gone. However, the skin around the area is now peeling and seems very thick. Is this a normal part of the healing process or a side effect of the medicine, or something else?
