I Have Been Diagnosed With Transgeminal Neuralgia And I Am

I have been diagnosed with Transgeminal Neuralgia and I am on a drug that is given to Epileptics. I am 2 days in to the treatment and I am seeping more easily and have less pain during the day.
What is the most put-to date treatment for this and should my doctor be giving me tests to find out why I have it and what is the best treatment for me. I have read some awful things that can happen to me and I am rather frightened by reading this.
