I Have Been Diagnosed With Achalasia Recently. My Symptoms Are

I have been diagnosed with achalasia recently. My symptoms are severe acid reflux with burning throat, tongue, throat clearing and coughing which I've had for 5 years. I'm on omeprazole, famotidine, and carafate which are not controlling symptoms enough.
The doctors also think I may have hypothyroid too, of which I have many thyroid symptoms. I recently saw the link between hypothyroid and achalasia, so I am wondering when I get my thyroid under control, could it help the achalasia symptoms without having surgery, or is surgery always necessary for achalasia?
