I Have Been Diagnosed With Impetigo On My Chin And

I have been diagnosed with impetigo on my chin and have been applying 2%mupirocin for 3 days 3x a day. I have been keeping it covered at work and while sleeping so it is very moist and an a little crusty. I was wondering when I clean it if I should rub off the moist skin and slight crustiness? I almost feel like I should let it dry out but putting the ointment on 3x a day prevents that. I'm worried about scarring. Thank you
