I have been experiencing hearing reduction since mid thrirties. 11 years back at age 42 I sufferered TBI. Since then, I had to go to many audiologists. I tried many types of hearing aids, none correcting the hearing loss. It sounds like mine is senserineural loss, not that any med professional confirmed it. My speech perception is severly impaired. What is worse, it has deteriorated form 80% to 36% in L to %52 in R ears. The last specialist brought up hereditary hearing loss as a explanation for the rapid deterioration of my hearing, and jumped to recommending a surgical cochlear implant w/o thru diagnostic of other ear or brain causes of my hearing impairment. He also suggested one brand of implant. The booklet he gave me only talks about how great the implant is, it fails to cover its complications and side effects?? Is it medically ethical to market one high end implant.
