I Have Been On Birth Control For About A Year

I have been on birth control for about a year now and just recently I was at the end of my hormone pills and took four inactive pills but wanted my period to stop sooner for personal reasons so I skipped the last three inactive pills and started a new pack. Now my period is light but I'm going on day 9 and it's never that long. Why is this and is there a way to stop it?
