I Have Been Reading About Saw Palmetto Helping To Halt

I have been reading about saw palmetto helping to halt production of DHT, which contributes to hair loss.
However this site, said another product finasteride is more effective than saw palmetto.
I haven't heard of this substance.
What is a more common name for it?
