I Have Been Starting To Spot Every Other Month When

I have been starting to spot every other month when I ovulate and go until I menstruate. It is only every other month but some months during ovulation I bleed as much if not more then during my normal cycle. I have been this way for at least 2 years and about a year ago i was put on metformin but it is not really doing anything but giving me head aches and make me sick to my stomach so I eat more.... not helping me try to eat health and lose weight (5'4" and 165lbs, most in my stomach area). I am going to see a specialist about having my utters burned/scarred as suggested by my Dr. is this a good idea and any question suggestion I should ask the specialist?
