I Have Been Taking Clobazam As A Piggyback Med With

I have been taking Clobazam as a piggyback med with my tegrotol for almost 3 years now. It is causing me some awful side effects. With weight gain (100+lbs) being the worst. I take 5mg every night and would like to wean off. I spoke to my family doctor as I do not currently have a neurologist and he advised me to take it every other night for two weeks then stop. Is this the correct way to wean off clobazam? I know it's a controlled substance so I was just wondering as I don't want to harm myself and it sounds odd to me. Any advice?
