I Have Been Taking Effexor ER 37.5 Mg /1per Day

I have been taking Effexor ER 37.5 mg /1per day for 2 years for hot flashes. It no longer seems to be effective and I would like to get off of this drug. I stopped taking it a few days ago and began experiencing dizziness (vertigo like feelings) throughout the day. I suspected it may be from stopping this drug so I took one last night before bedtime. This morning, I'm fine.
Can you confirm if my assumption is correct and advise how I can properly get off of this drug?
