I Have Been Told I Have Got Metal Clips In

I have been told I have got metal clips in the only op I have had is my appendix out keyhole .I have had a xray and have to have an MRI scan will I still be able to have. My MRI and why have I got clips in from my appendix I was one of the first to have keyhole when I was in my teens I am 48yrs
