I Have Chronic Insomnia & Anxiety-at Night. I May Feel

I have chronic insomnia & anxiety-at night. I may feel overstimulated or experience a general feeling of disease/dread. I have trouble falling asleep & staying asleep. I have good sleep hygiene; do not have sleep apnea or RLS. My MD wants me off lorazepam which I have taken for approximately 15 yrs(1 mg B.I.D. prn)- which I usually take as 1 mg at bed and another .5 mg for nocturnal awakenings-usually 1-2 times per night. I would also like to find an alternative as I am now experiencing a side effect of itchy skin. Currently on amitriptylin 10 mg at bed with no effect on insomnia. And I continue to take lorazepam to prevent withdrawal symptoms. I am to take 5 mg T.I.D. day but I save it for when the amitriptylin doesn't work-.5 mg usually 2-3 hrs after I go to bed. DO you have any suggestion?
