I Have Coughing Spells That Go Into Spasms Coughing Up

I have coughing spells that go into spasms Coughing up some bile and yellow stuff. It won't let me sleep. It is always worse at nighttime I sleep proped up on 4 pillows. What will stop the coughing? Dr prescribed hydrocodon acetaminophen 5-325 Will pick up later. Is this ok ?
