I Have Diabetes. But My A1c Has Been 4.9 Last

I have diabetes. but my a1c has been 4.9 last the times checked. I still take 500 mg of metformin because the last time i quit taking it i jumped way up. can i take turmeric for some pain relief? and how do i know I am getting the true turmeric if i buy some. thank you
