I have had a bad lower back for 8 years now. I fell through a 10 foot ceiling and the right side of my lower back landed on the corner of a ladder. I took 3 days off from work because I couldn't get out of bed. My occupation at the time was installing carpet, I was a sub contractor and didn't have any health insurance at the time. Needless to say I had bills to pay and had no choice but to go back to work even though that meant dealing with the physical demands of the job, moving furniture, carrying heavy carpet rolls, constantly bending over and being on my knees etc. My lower back( especially my right side) has never been the same. When sitting down I have to sit crooked on my left side to feel comfortable and relieve the pressure off my whole lower back, I can't bend over straight, and if I don't work out my lower back there would no form of muscle on the lower half of my back. Ive been exercising and lifting weights 4-5 days a week for the past 6 years and that seems to help quite a bit with pain and the ability to feel my legs more. I finally got it checked out 3 years ago and was diagnosed with a ruptured disc between my L4-L5 that is pitching two nerves and my L5 is a little out of place on my right side. Also this happens once in a blue moon, I get a sharp stinging pain if I turn the wrong way from the back side of my head on the right side down to the top of my neck. It last for one second but its wicked painful. Now that has been getting better over the years. I can function physical everyday and I have learned to help treat it the best i can even though im in pain and have to limit myself with certain things. Please give me your honest and detailed opinion?? What should I do? Also what sort of long term effects will the nerve damage do?
