I have had a fever now for 5 days, even though I'm now taking antibiotics and Tylenol. I'll give you a summary of my progression of symptoms.
I believe it started last Thursday with fairly severe joint aches mostly in my knees and arms. Then dissipated somewhat before I awoke Saturday night/Sunday morning to a fever, severely swollen lymph nodes in my neck and conjunctivitis in both eyes (no rash, and no sore throat or headache at the time but those did develop a day or two later) and severe aching all over my body. After removing my make-up and putting drops in my eyes, the conjunctivitis went away by Sunday late morning. My fever was fairly high, I'm guessing probably around 103 (didn't have a thermometer at the time). Although I had no "sore throat", it did hut to swallow do to the severity of the swollen lymph nodes in my neck. Then I noticed that the right node swelling went down, but the left stayed very swollen. Then I had severe pain in my neck unrelated to the lymph nodes. That went away and then I had a severe headache. I also noticed that the swelling in the lymph nodes was waxing and waning and both are again, and still, swollen. Then I developed a very slight drainage at the back of my throat which has since resulted in a very minor sore throat in my opinion although it does remain sore due to the lymph nodes. I went to Urgent Care yesterday and they said there was some whiteness where my tonsils used to be (had tonsillectomy at 18), so they did an instant Strep test and sent out another swab. The strep came back negative and the other should come back tomorrow or Friday. They also did a urine test, but that came back negative as well. There are no apparent signs of sinus or ear infection which I have had before. They prescribed Doxycycline 100mg twice/day, tylenol and advil every 4 hrs, sudefed 120mg every 12 hrs and Chlorpheniramine 4mg every 6hrs. I have been taking those for a day and a half now and still running a fever over 100 and still have swollen lymph nodes. My body aches have improved as well as my sporadic headache. I am experiencing stabbing pains that move to various body parts, (wrist, ankle, knee, either ear, temple, rib cage). I have also been experiencing achiness in my gut and back approximately from my belly button area to kidney level.
Other factors that may be important: I have a tooth on my right lower jaw that has been painful to chew on for about a year and a half. About a year ago, the dentists determined that I needed a root canal even thought there was no signs of decay. Apparently X-rays showed a darkening around the root. The root canal was done, but the pain persists. 6 months after the root canal, at my next dental cleaning, I told the dentist that my tooth still hurt. X-rays show the root canal to be complete, so he thought it might be sitting too high after the root canal filling and filed it down. He said it should be better in about two weeks, but it is not.
I was diagnosed around 2006 as having chronic lyme that I was not aware I was exposed too. Testing also revealed that I have antibodies to Mono (EBV), CMV, pneumonia, and a few other viruses that I wasn't even aware that I ever had (don't like going to the doctor).
Also, I'm divorced and dating and kissed two different guys; one on Wed and one on Saturday and neither of them got sick.
Any ideas what is wrong?
