I Have Had A Numbness On The Outside Of My

I have had a numbness on the outside of my left thigh for almost a month and a half now. I had a fall at thanksgiving, but didnt feel any pain then. My thigh isnt completely numb but it feels like the layers underneath are, kinda like when novacaine wears off. Also, its not my whole thigh just the lower outer portion just before the knee. My doc says he thinks its just nerve inflammation. Please tell me im not dying.
