I Have Had A Recurring Nail Infection Since Late 1999

I have had a recurring nail infection since late 1999 where its starts in my L thumb nail, may pus up and can last up to a year then heals and moves to my R nail thumb...same problem, then moved to my big toe nail where the nail had thickening underneath and again infection in the top half of the nail. One nail lifting up. Now this has all but resolved and now I have a infection in my L thumb now again. This started about 3 months ago where I was woken one night with a throbbing in that nail and the infection resulted. is there much a thing as a systemic fungal infection
