I Have Had A Small Mole On The Back Of

I have had a small mole on the back of my neck for nearly my entire life. Within the last 24 hours, the mole has swollen up and is becoming increasingly painful to the touch. The skin surrounding it is itchy but I cannot think of anything I could've come in contact with to cause the irritation. I am not allergic to anything that I know of. Do I need to go have this checked out?
