I Have Had A Very Sore Throat For 4 Days

I have had a very sore throat for 4 days with no other symptoms. Thought it was the beginning of a cold, but nothing else developed. Throat is so sore at night, I can barely swallow, and it gets better during the day. Any idea what this is? And do I need to go to a doctor or urgent care?
