I have had cold like symptoms for over 3 weeks. It started with a mild sore throat, which was mostly a scratchy feeling and was not too bothersome. A few days later i began to develop a dry cough. After about the first week the sore throat subsided, leaving me with just a cough. Again, a day or too later, i woke up late in the night with a stabbing pain in my left ear that only lasted a few seconds. Once i got up, i noticed that my ear felt as if something were stuck inside, but when i asked my mom about it, it was fine. I cleaned it out, thinking it was a build up of ear wax, but nothing helped and along with it feeling plugged, my hearing is slight impaired and noises in my head became louder, or echoing, like talking and eating. Also my ears ring quite often, prior to this, but now some nights it sounds like i can hear like a swishing sound in my left ear. Meanwhile my dry cough became more 'wet' and i began to cough up a lot of yellow mucus, and my nose was also very runny, mucus still a light yellow. After 2 1/2 weeks i finally got to the doctors and she said i had an upper respiratory infection and prescribed me antibiotics. She also said that my ears looked fine and might be related to allergies or sinus congestion. She told me that after antibiotics i should be better, but id be left with a dry cough for a while. After 4 days i finished the antibiotics, but since i started them i was not feeling any better. Its now been 3 weeks since i first felt sick and my cough has not gotten better, and the mucus i cough up is getting thicker, but less yellow. Its mostly in the morning, maybe an hour after waking up that i cough up the most mucus. At some times i have trouble coughing it up, leaving it hard to breath through my mouth, but i will breath through my nose then cough and it will be fine. Ive also lost my ability to taste, which im assuming is tied with my sinuses and my inability to smell at the moment. Just when i thought nothing else could pop up, again, late at night i had a pain in my right ear (before it was the left) and it felt plugged up and i heard the swishing noise inside my ear. Now both ears are plugged up, but do not hurt very often (also i should mention that i have not been swimming around the times i got sick). Thats just about it for now, im hoping itll start to settle down. The only thing worrying is my ears, as this has never happened, yet i do have ringing in my ears a lot. Im only 17, i dont go to parties or concerts or listen to loud music. The only loud noises im around are my loud italian family.
Also i have been to the hospital for severe constipation, and despite drinking lots of water and prune juice as well as upping my fiber, nothing seems to help. I usually make a bowel movement once or twice a week, but its never really much, this causes me a lot of pain in my stomach. I noticed that right around the time i got sick, is when it got more noticeable that i wasnt going. A few years back i was diagnosed with hypercalcemia causing me to be tired a lot, but i dont know if my constipation is associated with it not.
