I Have Had For Several Weeks Painful Leg Issues From

I have had for several weeks painful leg issues from a sciatic - it seems I have a tumor in or on the sciatic called a schwarmero (sp?) and was treated with a prednisone pack - while taking had no pain but came back when pack was completed. A friend suggested asking my doctor about Neurontin for relief. Only other suggestions was an injection and surgery outcome wasn't to appealing with possibility of weakened leg with needing to wear brace for the rest of my life. Suggestions?
