I Have Had Pain In My Chest For 5-6 Months

I have had pain in my chest for 5-6 months now. specifically in my sternum area. I was told this might be chondrachondritis.. not sure if that is spelled right. Nevertheless I was told this would go away in 2 weeks to a month. it has never gone away in fact its worse. I get short of breath at times. Any thoughts on what this might be?
