I Have Had What I Call A Thick Throat For

I have had what I call a thick throat for about a week now. I have to keep clearing my throat because when I'm talking, it will sound almost like I'm hoarse. Also I've noticed I have a whitish looking coating on my tongue. Is this anything to worry about? I live in Indiana and we've had a heat wave and now we are going through a cooler period. I do have airborne allergies, but have not had these symptoms from allergies before. Thank you
