I have just discovered I may have avascular necrosis in my left hip. I understand some of the reasons which cause this problem, including steroids, and alcoholism; however does osteoarthritis come in to play also. Most of my life, I am now 61 I have had most of my weight bearing on my right side due to a knee injury in my teens. Not sure what is considered alcoholism anymore however I never thought I was. I have also used inhaled steroids for asthma, along with a rescue inhaler. I have had periodic shots in my upper trochanter area with pain management, as well as back shots. I have had so many surgeries, knee replacement due to previously noted injury, should replacement due to a softball injury, neck fusion, and now it appears hip replacement. Hip started feeling weak, now is constant pain especially walking stairs or stooping down to pick something up. Any advice?
