I Have Left Side Face Starts Behind Ear To Under

I have left side face starts behind ear to under jaw and to voice box a swollen gland with pain for a week. I have tried orajel to numb with pain and antiseptic triple medicated... back of mouth, roof of mouth sore to touch the base of the pain in my neck and under jaw my where my gland is It is swollen. I have been applying dry heat. To day I stopped the dry heat and started wet heat ( hot water on a wash cloth) What could be causing my gland to swell and start hurting? It spreads to my ear canal and my mouth.
