I Have Lots Of Pain In My Right Shoulder Especially

I have lots of pain in my right shoulder especially when trying to reach overhead. The nurse practitioner at my doctors office wrote a script for an x/ray. Do you think an MRI would be better? I am wondering if this is a rotator cuff injury and how would that show up on an x/ray?
