I Have Pain Across The Top Of My Right Foot

I have pain across the top of my right foot that gets worse as the day goes on. At the end of a workday, my ankle and top of my foot swell and I have to keep it elevated thru the night for the swelling t o subside. In the morning it is much better but as the day goes on I have the same problem all over again. Why?
