I Have Pain And Popping In My Back Right Rib

I have pain and popping in my back right rib cage, upper part, when I cough or breathe deeply . I was recently involved in an auto accident and twisted my back pretty bad. What is that moving and popping and how serious is it because it is painful and I cannot sleep.
