I Have Pain On The Left Side Of My Neck,

I have pain on the left side of my neck, but it seems to be only on the outside. Tender to touch and if i turn my neck in certain ways i can feel it. Not painful swallowing. Feels outer but now i worry may be at thyroid? had wondered at first if it was muscle strain
