I Have Recently Become Aware That My Partner Has An

I have recently become aware that my partner has an alcohol abuse problem. He binge drinks approx once a month. He suffer short term memory problems to the point of acting similar to an Alzheimer's sufferer. He has recently suffered from pericarditis after a heavy drinking session. I'm wondering if this could be caused by his drinking as well.
