I Have Recently Had A Major Hearing Loss. It Started

I have recently had a major hearing loss. It started about 5 months ago...it got bad for a while and then got a little better, now as of a week ago I can barely hear at all. I have a appt. with a ENT specialist, but they can't see me until Sept. 10th. I work in a club with lots of cigarette smoke..could that be part of the cause. Thank you!
