I Have Severe Numbness In My Thumb That Comes And

I have severe numbness in my thumb that comes and goes, and soreness in my forearm, which I'm quite sure is not a heart attack (male 57 yrs old) but a pinched nerve somewhere between my shoulder and hand. Is this possible , or could it be more severe?
