I Have Severe Pain In Left Leg, Starts In Upper

I have severe pain in left leg, starts in upper thigh and runs down to ankle. It wakes me in middle of night; I can be laying on my left side or right side or my back - no particular position when pain occurs. During day, left leg, upper half, muscles are very tight as I climb stairs, I pull myself up stairs with the stair rail.
