I Have Smoked A Pack Of Digs A Days For

I have smoked a pack of digs a days for years and am down to about 6 a day. I was told I would be blood tested before surgery and would have to be nicotine free for 6 weeks to pass, is this true? I'm am struggling with quitting all together but don't want to push back getting my surgery.
