I Have Steady To Extreme Tooth Pain In One Of

I have steady to extreme tooth pain in one of my molars. It has a gold crown. It started the morning after some serious grinding of teeth. (Forgot bite guard while on vacation) I've taken motrin and it barely does anything. The only thing that soothes but doesn't take away the pain is cold water. What do you think it could be? Do I need to see the dentist?
