I Have Swollen Taste Buds That Itch All The Time,

I have swollen taste buds that itch all the time, so I bite them (I know it's gross!) and that relieves it but it just makes it worse later. Is there something I can do to stop the itching and hopefully stop biting them? I also have loads of mouth ulcers at the moment. My husband also now has some taste buds that look inflamed and he said they are also itchy. Can it be a virus that I have now passed onto him?
