I Have Terrible Varicose Veins On My Leg By My

I have terrible varicose veins on my leg by my knee. I was pulling a staple from a large wooden barrel and the players slipped and hit my leg where the veins are. It instantly had a large knot and swelled terribly and turned purple. It is terribly sore and I can barely walk. Should I go to an er, or will it be ok. The knot has gone down, but there is a 3 inch area that is very swollen.
