I Have Trouble Swallowing In The Lower Area, The Food

I have trouble swallowing in the lower area, the food won't go through that area ( can't remember the name) that opens up and enables the food to pass through,, I have had this most of my life and being 75 its getting worse with time. what do you call that muscle and what type of doctor will see me for this ?
